Governor Kathy Hochul has pulled her horrendous proposal to require local governments to allow accessory dwelling units in single family neighborhoods. This is a huge win for our neighborhoods. This radical proposal would have seemingly allowed all single family homes to turn into multifamily buildings with minimal local oversight. Retaining local control will preserve the character of our neighborhoods while not adding additional stress on the City’s infrastructure and school system. I thank Governor Hochul for listening to the chorus of local governments and their residents who knew this proposal was destined for disaster. We would be so fortunate if New York State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins would take the same tact regarding the deadly Bail Reform laws she continues to champion.
